LinkedIn video maker: a captioned video from one clip of you talking

Film a short video of yourself on your phone, upload it, and Cutroom edits it into a captioned vertical video. It fits LinkedIn's rules for profiles and Pages.

In short

  • Cutroom is a LinkedIn video maker for videos of you talking: you upload one clip and get a captioned vertical video back.
  • Cutroom shortens the pauses and adds captions, a headline and b-roll clips. The edit comes back in about a minute.
  • LinkedIn takes videos of up to 15 minutes on your profile and 10 on a Page. Cutroom only makes vertical 9:16.
  • LinkedIn's own tools are free and can trim a video and add captions, but they do not cut pauses or add b-roll.
  • Your first Cutroom video is free, with no card. After that, the Lite plan costs $19.99 a month.

What you get

You get a short, captioned video of you making one point.

  • Long pauses are shortened, so you get to the point faster.
  • Your words appear on screen as captions, so people can follow with the sound off.
  • A headline at the top states your point. Cutroom writes a draft, and you can rewrite it.
  • Stock b-roll clips play over key words, or you can switch b-roll off for a plainer video.
  • Cutroom captions videos in 8 languages, such as English, Spanish, French and German.
  • You download a vertical 9:16 MP4 file of 1080 x 1920 pixels. Cutroom does not make square or wide versions.

How to make a LinkedIn video with Cutroom

These are the four steps from your phone to LinkedIn. Cutroom does the editing step for you.

  • The edit comes back in about a minute.
  • If you delete a line in the transcript, Cutroom cuts the video again without it.
  • If Cutroom mishears a name, you type the right one in the transcript before you export.

Cutroom vs LinkedIn's own video tools

LinkedIn can trim a video and caption it for free. Cutroom edits the whole video for you, and you upload the file with your post.

  • LinkedIn's auto captions come in 10 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German and Dutch.
  • If your video already has Cutroom captions, remove LinkedIn's auto captions so the words do not show twice.

Which one should you use?

It depends on how much editing your video needs, and on the shape you want.

LinkedIn's tools, Cutroom or CapCut

  • Choose LinkedIn's own tools if your video is already clean and only needs a trim and captions. They are free.

  • Choose Cutroom if you want a vertical video with the pauses cut, styled captions and a headline added for you. Your first video is free.

  • Choose Another editor, such as CapCut if you need a square or wide video. CapCut is a free timeline editor where you make every cut yourself. Cutroom only makes vertical 9:16.

Questions people ask

How long can a LinkedIn video be?
Up to 15 minutes on your profile and 10 minutes on a company Page. A Cutroom video is 3 minutes at most, so it fits both.
What aspect ratio works on LinkedIn?
Anything from 1:2.4 to 2.4:1. Vertical 9:16 fits, and on a phone held upright it fills more of the screen than wide 16:9 video. Cutroom only exports vertical 9:16, so use another editor if you need square or wide.
Does LinkedIn add captions by itself?
Yes. LinkedIn makes auto captions in 10 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German and Dutch, and you can edit or remove them. If your video already has Cutroom captions, remove LinkedIn's.
Can I post a Cutroom video on my company Page?
Yes. Pages take videos of up to 10 minutes and 5 GB, and MP4 works there. A Cutroom video is well inside both.
Is this LinkedIn video maker free?
Your first Cutroom video is free, with no card, and you have 7 days to make it. It carries a Cutroom mark. Lite at $19.99 a month removes the mark.
