Where MOV files come from
MOV is Apple's video format, used by iPhones and Macs.
- iPhone videos copied or AirDropped to a computer are usually MOV files.
- QuickTime on a Mac saves its movie recordings as MOV.
- Mac screen recordings are MOV too, but they only have sound if you picked a microphone first.
Which quality should you pick?
192 kbps suits most iPhone videos. Pick 128 kbps when it is only someone talking.
- 128 kbps keeps the file small and is fine for speech and voice memos.
- 192 kbps is the right pick for music, or for a mix of music and speech.
- 320 kbps makes a bigger file without adding much you can actually hear.
- The MP3 can never sound better than the sound in the video it came from.

- How do I get the sound out of an iPhone video?

- Why does my Mac screen recording have no sound?
