Speed up a video: up to 3× faster, voice still clear

How long your video becomes
Speeding a clip up makes it shorter. At 2× it takes half as long to play, and at 3× a third of the time.
- A 3-minute clip at 1.5× comes out at 2 minutes, which fits X's 140-second limit.
- A talk at 1.25× loses a fifth of its length and still sounds normal.

What happens to the picture and the sound
Nothing is blurred together. Frames are skipped and the sound is shortened.
- At 2× every other frame is dropped, and at 3× two out of every three.
- If you keep the sound, it plays faster at the same pitch, so a voice stays clear.
- If you drop the sound, you get a silent clip for a time-lapse or for music.
- At 3× the sound is sped up in two stages, which keeps voices clear.

Limits of a browser tool
Everything runs on your own device, so your device sets the limits.
- File size: up to 500 MB runs comfortably. Bigger files may run out of memory.
- Speed: the engine uses one processor core, so a long re-encode takes minutes.
- First run: the engine downloads once, about 32 MB. After that it starts fast.
- Phones: it works, but a laptop is faster and has more memory.

- How do I speed up a video?

- Will the voice sound like a chipmunk?
- No. The tempo goes up and the pitch stays, so a voice sounds fast but normal.
- How do I make a time-lapse?

- Can I speed up only part of a video?
