When to flip a video
Most flips fix a clip that was saved the wrong way round.
- A selfie video comes out mirrored, so text on a shirt or a sign reads backwards until you flip it.
- Flipping one of two clips makes the person face the same way in both.
- A clip that came out upside down is fixed by turning it 180°, not by flipping it top to bottom.
Flip and turn options
A flip mirrors the picture. A turn rotates it. You can combine one of each.
- Mirror swaps left and right, which is the one that fixes a selfie video.
- The Vertical flip is a reflection top to bottom. On an upside-down clip it gets the person upright, but left and right end up swapped.
- 180° is the real fix for an upside-down clip, because it turns the picture instead of mirroring it.
- The preview shows the result live, before you press the button.

Limits of a browser tool
Everything runs on your own device, so your device sets the limits.
- File size: up to 500 MB runs comfortably. Bigger files may run out of memory.
- Speed: the engine uses one processor core, so a long re-encode takes minutes.
- First run: the engine downloads once, about 32 MB. After that it starts fast.
- Phones: it works, but a laptop is faster and has more memory.
- Flipping writes every frame again, so it takes about as long as the video plays on a laptop, and longer on a phone.

- How do I mirror a video?

- What is the difference between flipping and rotating?
- Flipping mirrors the picture, like a reflection. Rotating turns it. A mirror swaps left and right; a 180° turn puts an upside-down clip upright.
- How do I fix a video that is upside down?
- Pick 180°, not the vertical flip. A 180° turn puts the picture upright and leaves it the right way round. The vertical flip also puts it upright, but it swaps left and right, so writing reads backwards.
- How long does flipping a video take?
- About as long as the video plays, on a laptop. Every frame is written again, so a two-minute clip takes roughly two minutes. A phone takes longer.
- Will the flip show on every phone and app?
- Yes. The pixels themselves are flipped, not a setting in the file, so every player and app shows it the same way.
- Does flipping lower the quality?
- Barely. The picture is written again once, and the file comes out about the same size as the one you dropped in. The sound is left exactly as it was for video from a phone or a camera.
- Is my video uploaded anywhere?
