How to use the teleprompter
You paste the script, pick a length and set the speed, then press play.
- The spacebar plays and pauses the scroll.
- Restart jumps back to the top of the script.
- If you have taken our free speaking pace test on this device, the tool also shows how long the script takes to say at your pace.

How to record a Reel with the teleprompter
On most phones you cannot read this page and film with the camera app at the same time. Here is how to do both.
- Open the teleprompter on a laptop or tablet, and put your phone just above the text so your eyes stay close to the lens.
- Or use our free portrait video recorder. It shows a scrolling script over the camera and records a vertical video in your browser.
- Stand back a little from the screen. The further away you are, the less your eyes seem to move as you read.
- Leave Mirror off, unless you read through angled teleprompter glass in front of the camera.

What the timer shows
The timer checks your script against the target you picked, before you start, while you read and when you finish.
- Before you start, it shows how long the whole script takes at your speed and text size, and about how many words a minute that is.
- While you read, the clock runs against your target and shows about how many words are left.
- When the script ends, it tells you how many seconds you were over or under the target.
- The clock only runs while the text scrolls. If you pause the scroll during a recording, those seconds are not counted, so the real video runs longer.
Teleprompter settings
You can change four things. The estimate updates as you change them.
- Bigger text makes the script longer on screen, so it takes longer to scroll at the same speed.
- If the text scrolls faster than you talk, slow it down.

How many words fit in 30, 60 and 90 seconds
Most people talk at 120 to 150 words a minute. At 130 words a minute, a 60-second Reel is about 130 words.
- If the script runs long, cut a sentence. Scrolling faster only works if you can also talk that fast without rushing.

- Does the timer count my pauses?
- Only while the text is scrolling. If you pause the scroll, the clock stops too, so those seconds are not counted. Aim a few seconds under your target.
