What Cutroom does with your video
You upload one video of yourself talking. A minute or two later you get a finished vertical video back.
- Cutroom adds a b-roll clip wherever you name something it can show, like a place, a product or an action.
- On Punch and Native, it cuts out the ums and uhs that show up in your transcript and shortens the pauses it finds between your words, never in the middle of a word.
- It adds zooms and transitions between shots. Flow, Punch and Native add short sound effects where the picture changes; Straight cut adds none.
- It adds captions timed to your voice, in one of 40 caption styles.
- You can swap one clip or fix one word without losing the other changes you made.

The video you upload is plain. The one you get back has the b-roll, the cuts and the captions in it.
Where does the b-roll go?
Cutroom writes out what you said. Then it plays each clip exactly while you talk about that thing.
- If you say "our warehouse in New York", a warehouse clip plays during those five words.
- You see your words on screen, with each clip marked on the words it covers.
- To move a clip, you drag it onto different words. There is no timeline to line up.
- A clip can fill the whole screen, or play in a smaller box over part of the picture so you stay in view.

Where do the b-roll clips come from?
From your own uploads first, then from free stock clips.
- You can upload your own videos and photos, and Cutroom uses them before stock clips.
- It tags what is in each clip, like a person, a room or a product, so it can pick the right one when you mention it.
- When you mention your workshop, you get your own workshop, not a stranger's.
- Where you have no clip of your own, Cutroom uses free clips from Pexels and Pixabay. There are millions of them.
- Finding the clips costs nothing extra. It is part of the edit, which costs 100 credits.

How do you change the edit?
Cutroom makes the first edit. You click the part that bothers you, and only that part changes.
- You can fix a word it misheard in the transcript.
- You can swap any b-roll clip, or search the free library for another one.
- You can move the captions up when they cover your face.
- You can pick a different caption style, or turn the music up or down.

Captions, transitions and music
Captions and transitions are added with the b-roll. Music stays off until you turn it on.
- Captions come in 40 caption styles, shown three words at a time or word by word.
- You choose where the captions sit on the screen and how big they are.
- Cutroom adds a transition between clips. There are five to choose from, including a plain cut.
- Music is off at first, so the first thing you hear is your own voice. One tap turns it on.

What it does not do
Cutroom is built for short, upright videos of a person talking, like ads for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
- It takes uploads up to 3 minutes long.
- It only takes upright video. A landscape video is refused at upload, before any credits are charged.
- A video without sound is refused too.
- It makes one upright 1080 by 1920 video. There is no widescreen and no 4K.
Questions people ask
- Which AI video editors add b-roll automatically?
- Cutroom, VEED, Kapwing and Submagic all do. VEED places AI still images, Kapwing places stock clips, and both leave the rest of the edit to you. Cutroom places video clips, your own first, and also makes the cuts and captions.
- Can I download my video, or is there a paywall at the end?
- You can download it. Your free video carries a Cutroom mark across the middle; on paid plans nothing is on it. The export price shows on the Export button before you press it.
- What kind of video does it work with?
- One upright video of a person talking, up to 3 minutes, with sound. You get back an upright 1080 by 1920 video. Landscape and silent videos are refused at upload, before any credits are charged. A 4K upload comes back at 1080p.
- How many videos do I get a month?
- About 10 on Lite and about 20 on Basic. A 30-second ad costs 110 credits: 100 for the edit and 10 for the export. Editing and previewing are free. Re-exporting an unchanged video is free too, unless the renderer was updated or your watermark changed. Unused credits stay in your account.
- Where do the b-roll clips come from?
- From your own uploads first, then from millions of free stock clips from Pexels and Pixabay. Finding them costs nothing extra. It is part of the edit, which costs 100 credits.
- Does it work in my language?
- Yes, in eight: English (US), English (UK), Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), German, French, Dutch and Italian. You pick yours from a list when you upload.

- Yes. Cutroom runs in your phone's browser, so it works the same on iPhone and Android. A bigger screen is more comfortable for editing, but nothing is locked away.
