5 Reasons Creators Let Cutroom Do Their B-Roll Edits
You upload one talking video. The b-roll lands on the words that need it, and the captions and the cuts come with it.
- free edits, our mark across the middle
- 3 in 7 days
- the longest video you can upload
- 3 min
- a thirty-second ad, upload to file
- 110 CR
Cutroom is for people who make content. Not for people who want to spend all night editing it.
You upload your video. That's your part.
Cutroom does the rest. It puts b-roll on the right words: your own clips, or the million-plus free ones in our library. It writes the captions. It makes the cuts, adds the zooms and the transitions. Music is a tap away when you want it.
A minute or two later there's a finished vertical video sitting there. If something's off, you change that one thing and the rest stays put.
Here are the five things it does.
- B-roll on the words that need it, your clips or ours
- Cuts and transitions between words, never through one
- Captions as part of the picture, three words at a time
- Music in one tap, then it follows your pace
One take in, a finished vertical out
What you upload has nothing on it. What comes back has the b-roll, the cuts and the captions already in it.
The b-roll lands on the words that need it. Not every 8 seconds.
You know how most tools just drop a clip in every few seconds, whether it fits or not? Cutroom actually reads what you said.
So you say "our warehouse in New York" and a warehouse shot lands on those four words. Not the sentence before it. Not the one after.
And you can watch it happen. Your words sit on the left, with the shot highlighted right where it lands. Don't like it there? Drag it onto different words.
No timeline. Nothing to line up. You're just editing the sentence.
The shot covers the words, not the seconds
Five words get one shot. Move it and it goes with the words, not with a clock.
This is the whole editor
Highlight a phrase and a clip lands on those exact words. No timeline, no keyframes, no layers.
Or use your own clips. Cutroom knows what's in them.
Stock footage works. But everyone's using the same clips.
So upload your own. Videos, photos, whatever you've got lying around.
Cutroom goes through them and notes what's in each one. Man, beard, grey t-shirt, bedroom, warm lighting, lamp.
Now when you mention your workshop, you get your workshop. Not some guy's workshop from a clip site.
You can still use ours too. It doesn't have to be one or the other.
The same word, searched two ways
A stock search gives you somebody else's warehouse. Your library gives you yours.
It edits itself first. Then you fix whatever bugs you.
Upload your recording and go do something else. A minute or two later there's a cut sitting there, done.
Most of the time that's fine. You export it and move on.
But when something's off, you just change it. Fix a word it misheard. Swap a shot you don't like. Move the captions up because they're sitting on your face. Pick a different caption style. Turn the music down.
You don't have to redo anything. You click the bit that bothers you, and that bit changes.
One thing moves. Nothing else does.
You move the one thing that bothers you. The rest of the edit stays exactly where it was.
It's not just the b-roll. It's the whole edit.
You get proper transitions between shots. A whip pan, a punch-in, a glitch, a light sweep, a glitch where it fits. Not everything fading into everything.
There are six caption styles and the captions are the modern kind. Three words at a time, heavy, landing with your voice. Or word by word if you'd rather have that. Not one grey line of subtitles sitting at the bottom.
Music is one tap away, and it starts switched off on purpose. The first thing you hear back should be your own voice. Turn it on and a lively read gets a lively bed.
And the cuts do the boring work for you. The ums come out, the long silences get shorter, and nothing ever gets cut halfway through a word.
You didn't set any of that up.
Karaoke, one of six caption packs
A marker box on the word you are saying. Six styles, and you pick where they sit on the screen.
And there's more in there than the editor.
The editor is the whole product, and it is what you get on every plan, including the free one. The free tier is three edits inside your first seven days, and what it exports carries our mark across the middle. Nothing else about it is smaller: same length, same editor, same export.
The rooms next door are the reason to move up rather than the reason to start.
On Basic, $39.99 a month, you get avatars. Record a voiceover, give it a photo, and it talks for you. You also get music you generate by describing the vibe rather than picking a genre.
On Premium, $79.99 a month, you also get the drawing tool for that explainer look, and product shots for when you sell something you can hold and have no decent photos of it.
An avatar you make drops straight into your edit. The rest you download and upload like any other clip.
Which plan opens which room

Questions people ask
- If I make an ad, can I actually download it, or is there a paywall at the end?
- You download it. On the free tier our own mark sits across the middle of the picture, and that is the only difference: same editor, same length, same export. On Basic and Premium nothing is stamped on it at all. Exporting costs credits, and the price sits on the Export button before you press it, so nothing about the bill turns up at the end. There is no card at the front door, and you get seven days to walk through it: the free tier is three finished videos, with 600 credits, which covers those three edits and re-exporting them after you change a caption.
- Will it work with my kind of video?
- Cutroom takes one upright video of a person talking, up to three minutes, with sound on it. You get back one upright video at 1080 by 1920. Landscape footage is refused at upload, before a single credit is charged. A wide take inside an upright frame is a strip between black bars, and we would rather stop you than sell you that. A video with no sound is refused for the same reason. There is no widescreen export and no 4K; a 4K upload comes back at 1080p, the same as everyone else's. If you shoot horizontal, or your videos run twenty minutes, this is not your tool yet, and we would rather you knew that here than after paying.
- How many videos do I actually get for this?
- Two charges make an ad, and you see both before you spend them. Cutting one upload is 100 credits: writing out what you said, the edit itself, and the b-roll search. Exporting is 20 credits for every finished minute, charged for the length you actually export, so a thirty-second ad is 10. That makes a thirty-second ad 110 credits from upload to finished file. Basic gives 2,500 credits a month, which is about twenty finished ads. Everything between those two charges is free: editing, previewing, undoing, searching for clips, uploading your own footage, changing your mind. Exporting the same cut again unchanged is free too. Credits you do not use stay in the account. Before any of that, the free tier gives you three edits, ever, with our mark across the middle.
- Can I post what comes out, or will I still be in there for an hour?
- Two things make the difference, and both are structural rather than a promise about quality. First, Cutroom does not pick which parts of your video to keep. Your whole take stays in, in order. It tightens the dead air and drops the ums, and it only ever cuts where a sentence ends, never mid-word. Second, when it gets something wrong you fix it by pointing, not by editing. Highlight a phrase and a clip lands over exactly those words. Delete a line and the cut rebuilds around it. Correct a word it misheard and every caption of that word changes. All of it is free, all of it is undoable, and there is no timeline to learn.
- Does this work in my language, or only English?
- Eight languages today, by name: English (US), English (UK), Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), German, French, Dutch and Italian. You pick yours from a list when you upload. If your language is not one of those eight, Cutroom will not do a good job for you yet. We would rather write that down than sell you a subscription and let you find out.
- Does this work on my phone, or do I need a computer?
- It works on a phone. Cutroom is a website, not an app. There is no iPhone version and no Android version, so there is no feature that lives on one device and not the other. A big screen is more comfortable for marking up your words, and the app says so once, but nothing is locked away.
Upload a take and see what comes back. Three finished videos free in your first seven days, no card. They carry a Cutroom mark; Lite at $19.99 a month removes it.
