Descript is a text-based editor: you edit the transcript and the video follows. It suits a course that is mostly you explaining things to camera.
- Best for: course creators who talk through lessons and re-record a lot.
- Delete a sentence in the transcript and Descript cuts it from the video. Its AI assistant, Underlord, can also take the pauses and mistakes out of a raw recording for you.

VEED
VEED is a browser editor that covers most of what a small course needs, with nothing to install.
- Best for: course creators who want one low-cost browser tool and do not need quizzes or SCORM.
- It adds subtitles automatically, and it has a screen recorder and transcription built in.

Synthesia
Synthesia makes a lesson from a script, with an AI avatar as the presenter. To update a lesson, you edit the text instead of filming again.
- Best for: training sold to companies, lessons you update often, or one course in several languages.
- You type the script, pick an avatar and a language, choose a template and download the video.
- Every plan has 160+ languages and voices. Starter has 125+ avatars.
- Price: the free plan gives you 1,200 credits a month, which is up to 10 minutes, with 9 avatars and a watermark. Starter is $18 a month billed yearly, or $29 monthly, and adds downloads.
- Creator is $64 a month billed yearly. It has 180+ avatars, and you can make up to 5 avatars that look like you, against 3 on Starter.
- SCORM export, the file format company learning platforms use, is only on the Enterprise plan, which has no public price.
- Tradeoff: an avatar teaches the lesson, not you. That works for staff training, but less well for a course people buy because they like the teacher.
OpusClip
OpusClip turns a long video into short vertical clips with captions. It works best on recorded webinars and live workshops.
