Comparison

Zubtitle dresses a video you already edited. Cutroom is the edit.

Zubtitle takes a finished video and dresses it for social: captions, a headline, a progress bar, a resize. Cutroom starts three steps earlier, with one spoken take, and returns the finished 9:16 ad itself, cut, covered and captioned. Which one you need depends on where your videos actually stall.

What Zubtitle actually does, and who it fits

Zubtitle is finishing gear for videos that are already edited. Upload a clip and it adds captions automatically, fits a headline above the frame, draws a progress bar, drops in your logo and resizes the video for the platform.

It is built for podcasters, experts and coaches, in its own words, and the plans are counted in videos: the $0 Bootstrapper does two a month at 720p with their watermark, Guru is $19 a month for ten videos with the watermark removed, and Agency is $49 for thirty (per zubtitle.com's pricing page, August 2026).

If your clips get cut somewhere else and just need dressing before they post, that is a fair price for never doing caption work again.

The tool asks one thing: that the video arrives finished. It captions and frames what you hand it. It never removes a second of it.

That single fact is the whole boundary between these two products.

Captions are the last step. The stall is usually earlier.

Count where your unposted videos actually sit. If your folder holds finished edits waiting for captions, Zubtitle clears that pile cheaply.

Most piles are not that. They are raw takes nobody cut, because cutting is the work: choosing the lines, tightening the dead air, finding the b-roll, timing the text.

A captioning tool cannot start on that pile. It needs the edit to exist first.

Cutroom takes the raw take. It transcribes every word, decides the cut, tightens dead air and drops the ums, cutting only at sentence ends. It places b-roll on exactly the words that need showing, writes the hook headline, and times and styles the captions.

Captions here are not a layer added at the end. They come out of the same transcript as the cut, which is why a caption never hangs over a cut boundary.

Where each tool enters the pipeline

Direct the finished ad by marking words

The draft arrives in about four minutes as a 9:16 MP4: cut decided, b-roll placed, captions burned in.

Highlight a phrase and a clip lands over exactly those words. Swap it, or search millions of free ones.

Delete a line and the cut rebuilds around the gap. Change the pace and the whole thing re-cuts.

Emphasise the word your claim turns on so it pops in the captions. Fix a mis-heard word and the burned-in text follows.

Six caption styles, including DuoStack two-word and moving captions, adjustable for colour, weight, size and position. Five transitions: cut, whip, punch, glitch, sweep.

Music is optional: the house library or a generated instrumental bed, mixed under the voice at a normalised loudness.

  • A batch is 100 credits: transcript, director pass, b-roll search
  • Export is 20 credits per finished minute
  • A second export of the same take does not re-charge the batch
  • Nothing is stamped on a paid export; the three free videos carry our mark across the middle

What Cutroom will not do with a finished video

Cutroom will not caption your existing edit and hand it back untouched. Feeding it a finished video means paying a batch for it to re-cut work that was already done. That is Zubtitle's job, and Zubtitle is better at it.

There is no resizing here at all. Zubtitle reformats a video for square and other shapes. Cutroom outputs 9:16 vertical and nothing else.

There is no SRT or VTT file out. Captions are burned in. If a platform needs a subtitle file, that is another Zubtitle row.

There is no logo placement and no progress bar. The export carries nothing of ours, and offers nothing of yours to stamp either.

And the input has a hard shape: one person talking, up to three minutes. A podcast episode or a webinar recording is the wrong shape for this machine.

Ten dressed clips or ten finished ads: the same twenty dollars

Zubtitle Guru is $19 a month for ten videos captioned and framed (per zubtitle.com's pricing page, August 2026). Cutroom Lite is $19.99 a month for 1,250 credits, which is about ten finished one-minute ads at roughly 120 credits each: 100 for the batch, 20 per exported minute.

Ten and ten, a dollar apart. The difference is entirely in what the ten are. Guru's ten arrive already edited by you. Lite's ten arrive as raw takes and leave finished.

Winners run at 5 to 8 percent of creatives, per Motion's analysis of 550,000+ Meta ads. One in thirteen to one in twenty. Ten attempts a month is around the floor at which those odds start paying out.

So price is not the decision here, for once. The decision is which ten you can actually produce. If editing is solved, buy the dresser. If editing is the stall, buy the editor.

Questions people ask

Can Cutroom just add captions to a video I already edited?
It can, but it is the wrong buy for that. The batch re-cuts whatever you upload, so finished work gets redone at full price. A dressing tool like Zubtitle captions the file as it is, and for that exact job it is the better and cheaper answer.
Does Cutroom export an SRT file, or captions I can restyle elsewhere?
No. Captions are styled in the editor, six styles, and burned into the MP4. There is no SRT or VTT export. If a subtitle file is a requirement, use a captioning tool on that file.
Which is cheaper for ten videos a month?
They land within a dollar: Zubtitle Guru at $19 for ten captioned videos (per zubtitle.com, August 2026), Cutroom Lite at $19.99 for about ten finished one-minute ads. The real question is whether your ten already exist as edits. If they do not, only one of these tools produces them.
Should I switch from Zubtitle to Cutroom?
If your videos arrive edited from somewhere else, do not switch. Zubtitle is doing its job and doing it cheaply. Switch when the queue of raw, uncut takes is the thing growing. Run one take through Cutroom and compare the finished ad against what your current pipeline made from similar material.
Can Cutroom add a progress bar or my logo?
No. No progress bar, no logo placement, no frame around the video. The export is the ad itself, captions burned in, with nothing of yours stamped on it on any plan and nothing of ours on a paid one; the three free videos carry a Cutroom mark across the middle, which Lite at $19.99 a month removes. If channel dressing matters to you, keep a dressing tool in the stack for that final step.

Dressing a video is quick once the video exists. Making it exist is the work. Cutroom takes the spoken take and hands back the finished 9:16 ad.
