How the Premiere Pro alternatives differ

• DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro are professional editors. They give you Premiere-level control without the Adobe subscription.
• Filmora and CapCut are simpler editors. They cost less than Premiere Pro and are easier to learn, with less depth in colour and audio.
• Descript is an editor you use by text. You cut by deleting sentences, which is fast for talking videos.
• Cutroom has no timeline. You upload one clip of you talking and check the transcript before you export.

DaVinci Resolve

• Best for: editors who want Premiere-level control without a subscription.
• Price: free. Studio is $295, paid once.
• The free version edits up to Ultra HD at 60fps, with editing, colour, visual effects and audio in one app.

• Tradeoff: colleagues on Windows cannot open your project, so it suits people who edit alone or with other Mac users.

Descript

• Best for: long talking videos and podcasts.

• You delete a sentence in the transcript and the video is cut with it.

• If you already pay for Creative Cloud, Premiere Pro is included, so switching saves you nothing.
