A video editor for tattoo artists: talk through the piece, post the same day

You film all day without trying. The stencil going on, the machine running, the healed check-in. Almost none of it gets posted, because editing starts after your last client leaves. Cutroom turns one talking take into a finished 9:16 video with captions, in about a minute. Here is how it works with your footage, what a month costs, and the limits to plan around.

The tattoo gets finished. The video of it never does.

A session produces footage on its own. The stencil placement. The liner running. The wipe and the first look in the mirror. The healed piece weeks later, when the client comes back.

Those clips sit in your camera roll. Posting them means editing them. Editing means an hour in a phone app at 9pm, after a six hour session.

So the feed stays photos. Photos show the work. They do not carry your voice, and your voice is what a nervous first-timer is trying to judge.

A video where you explain one piece does something a photo cannot. It lets a stranger hear how you think about the work before they trust you with their skin.

  • Process clips: filmed during the session, watched once, never posted
  • Healed check-ins: the strongest proof you have, and the least filmed
  • The missing hour: editing time after a full day at the machine

One talking take in. A finished vertical video out.

Film one take on your phone. You, talking about one piece, up to 3 minutes. What the client asked for, what you changed, how it healed.

Upload it. Cutroom transcribes the take, drafts the cut, places b-roll on the words and burns in captions. The edit comes back in about a minute.

The transcript is the editor. Highlight a phrase and a clip lands on exactly those words. Move it if you disagree. Delete a line and the cut rebuilds around it.

There is no timeline and no app to install. It runs in the browser. Out comes a 9:16 MP4, 1080 by 1920, the shape Reels, TikTok and Shorts all want.

Captions come in six styles. Most viewers watch with the sound off, so your words are on screen either way.

From take to posted video

Two of the four steps cost credits.

  1. One take

Up to 3 minutes, on your phone

  2. Batch

    100 credits: transcript, cut, b-roll

  3. Direct on the words

    Highlight, swap, delete a line

  4. Export

    20 credits per finished minute

This is the whole editor

Highlight a phrase and a clip lands on those exact words. No timeline, no keyframes, no layers.

Your process clips become the b-roll, on the words you pick

The clips in your camera roll stop being a backlog. They become material.

Upload them to your workspace library once. They stay available for every video you make after that.

Talk about the linework, highlight that phrase, and your close-up of the machine running lands on exactly those words.

The healed reveal works the same way. Fresh footage on the words about day one. Healed footage on the words about week six.

A stock search across millions of free clips covers the words your own footage does not.

One flat fact to plan around: each project makes one finished video. A second angle on the same piece is a second take. That is 3 minutes of talking, not an evening of editing.

What a month of posting costs

A batch is 100 credits. That covers the transcript, the director pass and the b-roll search. Export adds 20 credits per finished minute, so a 30 second video lands at about 110 credits.

The free tier is 3 finished videos in your first 7 days, with 600 credits and no card. They carry a Cutroom mark across the middle. That is enough to test the whole route on real work before paying anything.

Lite is $19.99 a month for 1,250 credits and the mark comes off. Basic is $39.99 for 2,500 credits, about 20 finished videos; Premium is $79.99 for 5,000, about 45.

Compare that with the current price of a video: one evening per clip, paid in the hours after your last appointment.

Film three takes while the studio is quiet. Post all week.

The habit that works is batching the talking, not the editing.

Pick one slow morning. Film three takes back to back. A healed piece. The aftercare answer you give every week. The style you want more bookings for.

Each take is one upload and one export. Ten minutes of talking becomes three posts, spread across the week.

Two limits to plan around. A take caps at 3 minutes, which is longer than any Reel needs. And somebody has to talk. A silent montage set to a song is a different job, and a phone app already does that one.

Questions people ask

Do I have to be on camera?
You have to talk. B-roll and captions cover up to about 45 percent of the runtime at normal pace. Your face carries the rest. If you will not appear at all, the avatar module turns a photo and a voice recording into a presenter at 350 credits per minute of render.
Can I use my own tattoo footage as b-roll?
Yes. Upload your clips to the workspace library once. Then highlight the words in the transcript where a clip belongs and it lands on exactly those words. A stock search across millions of free clips covers the rest.
What does one video cost?
A batch is 100 credits and export is 20 credits per finished minute, so a 30 second video is about 110 credits. Basic is $39.99 a month for 2,500 credits, about 20 videos a month.
Do I need my client's permission to film and post?
Yes, and ask before the needle starts. One line does it: may I film during the session and post the video. Keep the answer in the chat. Most clients say yes, and the ones who decline tell you before it costs you a post.
Is music included?
You can generate an instrumental track for 50 credits and set how loud it sits under your voice. The voice stays the lead. The captions and the b-roll are both built on your words.
Who is this wrong for?
Artists who never want spoken video. If your whole feed is silent time-lapses set to a song, a phone editor does that fine. The moment you want a video where you explain the work, this is the faster route.

One talking take about a piece you are proud of. A finished vertical video back in about a minute, captions on, your own footage on the right words. The editing evening is gone.
