Comparison
FlexClip starts from a template. Cutroom starts from the sentences you say.
FlexClip earns its users honestly: pick a template, drop in stock and text, export a video with nobody on camera. Cutroom is the alternative for when the ad should be you talking. One spoken take goes in and a finished 9:16 ad comes out, b-roll sitting on the exact words that need showing.
- the longest spoken take Cutroom accepts
- 3 min
- b-roll coverage ceiling at normal pace
- 45%
- caption styles, timed to your speech

What a template editor is for, and FlexClip does it well
FlexClip is a browser editor built around templates. Pick one close to the job, swap in your clips or stock, change the text, export. Promo videos, slideshows, listing videos, event invites.
The $0 tier is a real way to test it: 720p exports with a watermark, one stock clip per project, videos up to ten minutes (per flexclip.com's pricing guide, August 2026).
Paid removes the ceilings. Plus is $11.99 a month and Business is $19.99 a month on annual billing, both exporting 1080p with the watermark gone. Business allows unlimited stock per project, per the same page.
AI features are metered: 3,600 credits a year on Plus and 9,600 on Business, per the same page.
The honest pitch for all of it: a presentable video with nobody on camera, in under an hour. Plenty of jobs need exactly that.
A template is someone else's structure. An ad is your sentence.
Every template was designed before your product existed. The structure, the rhythm and the text slots were chosen for nobody in particular, which is exactly what makes them reusable.
That is fine for a birthday montage or a sale announcement. It shows in an ad, because feeds have trained people to recognise stock-plus-text in about half a second, and to scroll past it.
What a feed rewards is a person saying a specific sentence to a specific viewer. No slot can hold that, because the sentence is the ad.
Cutroom's whole input is that sentence, spoken. You film one take on a phone, up to three minutes, and upload it.
The machine transcribes every word, decides the cut, writes the hook headline, and places b-roll only where the words need showing. Coverage is capped at 40, 45 or 52 percent by pace, so the ad stays a person talking instead of becoming the stock montage you were leaving behind.
Where each video comes from
| FlexClip | Cutroom | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting material | A template plus stock | One spoken take |
| Who appears | Nobody has to | You, on camera |
| Structure decided by | The template | A director pass on your words |
| Text on screen | Typed into slots | Captions timed to your speech |
| Output shapes | Multiple ratios | 9:16 vertical only |
This is the whole editor
Highlight a phrase and a clip lands on those exact words. No timeline, no keyframes, no layers.
Mark the words, and the edit follows
The draft comes back in about four minutes: cut decided, b-roll placed, captions burned in, headline written.
Highlight a phrase and a clip lands over exactly those words. Swap it, search millions of free ones, or use your own library.
Delete a line and the cut rebuilds around the gap. Change the pace and the whole piece re-cuts, coverage ceiling included.
Emphasise the word the claim turns on. Fix a mis-heard word and the captions follow. Trim the opening or the ending.
Five ways a clip can enter: cut, whip, punch, glitch, sweep. Six caption styles, including DuoStack two-word and moving captions.
Music is optional: the house library, or an instrumental bed generated from a described style, mixed under your voice at a normalised loudness.
If nobody will get on camera, Cutroom has nothing to cut
This is the row FlexClip keeps, and it is a big one. Cutroom needs a person speaking. No take, no ad. FlexClip produces a finished video from templates and stock with nobody filming anything.
The nearest thing here is the avatar module on Basic at $39.99 a month: a photo plus a script becomes a presenter take. That is still a face and a voice, which is the point, but it is not a template library.
There are no templates in Cutroom at all, no slideshow mode, and no way to build a video out of stock alone. B-roll here decorates a spoken claim. It never replaces the speaker.
The only export is a 9:16 MP4. FlexClip exports multiple shapes, and if you need square or landscape, that decides it.
And the source cap is three minutes, hard. A ten-minute explainer belongs in FlexClip's editor, not here.
Two tools at $19.99, doing opposite jobs
FlexClip Business and Cutroom Lite land on the same number: $19.99 a month, FlexClip's on annual billing (per flexclip.com's pricing guide, August 2026), Cutroom's monthly, with 1,250 credits.
The number being equal makes the difference easy to see. One buys template exports you assemble yourself. The other buys about ten finished one-minute ads a month that arrive already cut, at roughly 120 credits each: 100 for the batch, 20 per exported minute.
Winners run at 5 to 8 percent of creatives, per Motion's analysis of 550,000+ Meta ads. One in thirteen to one in twenty. Whichever tool you pick, plan to make many, not one.
So the question is which kind of many. Many templated videos with nobody on camera, or many takes of you talking, finished for you.
The feed you are buying ads in has already voted on that. Check your own results before believing either of us.

Questions people ask
- Can Cutroom make a video without me on camera?
- Not on Lite. The avatar module on Basic at $39.99 a month turns a photo plus a script into a presenter take, which the pipeline then cuts like any other. If nobody will appear at all and no photo is on the table, FlexClip's template approach is the right tool and this is the wrong one.
- Is FlexClip cheaper than Cutroom?
- Paid against paid, yes: Plus is $11.99 a month on annual billing against Lite's $19.99, and their $0 tier keeps going where ours stops (720p with a watermark, per flexclip.com's pricing guide, August 2026). Ours is three finished videos free in your first seven days, no card, with a Cutroom mark across the middle that Lite removes. Price the finishing work too. FlexClip's price includes you assembling every video. Cutroom's includes the cut arriving done.
- Should I switch from FlexClip to Cutroom?
- Only if your ads should be a person talking and the assembling is what stops you shipping. If templates are producing videos that perform, keep them, they are cheaper. The clean test: film one take, run it through, and put the result next to your best template export for the same offer.
- Does Cutroom have templates or preset styles?
- No templates. The nearest things are six caption styles and five transitions, which restyle the same cut. The structure of each ad is drafted from your own take by the director pass, not chosen from a library.
- Can I use stock footage in Cutroom like I do in FlexClip?
- Yes, as b-roll over your take: highlight a phrase and search millions of stock clips, or your own uploads. What you cannot do is build the whole video out of stock. The speaker stays the spine, and coverage is capped at 40 to 52 percent depending on pace.
A template can make a video without you. It cannot say your sentence. Cutroom cuts the take where you say it into a finished 9:16 ad, captions burned in.
