Descript has a free plan and three paid plans from $24 to $65 per person a month, or $16 to $50 billed yearly, checked 21 September 2026. Each plan limits your media hours and AI credits.

- Creator exports in 4K and adds full Underlord access and unlimited stock media.
- Business adds Brand Studio for templates in your brand's look, dubbing into 30+ languages and custom avatars.

How media hours and AI credits work
Descript gives you two monthly allowances, and either one can run out first.
- Media hours count every minute you upload or record, whether you use it in the edit or not.
- AI credits are used by AI features such as Underlord, audio cleanup, eye contact, green screen and AI voices.
- Hobbyist's 10 media hours are 600 minutes. A weekly 45-minute podcast uses about 3 hours of that a month.
- Ten media hours are enough for about 200 three-minute clips a month.
- Creator and Business can buy extra media hours and AI credits when they run out. Free and Hobbyist cannot, so you would move up a plan.
Is Descript priced per person?
Yes. The price on the pricing page covers one editor.
- Hobbyist is for one person.
- Creator scales to a team of 3, and each person is billed separately.
- Business scales to a team of 5, and each person is billed separately.
- Three editors on Creator cost 3 × $35, which is $105 a month billed monthly.

Which Descript plan to choose
Choose Free if you upload or record less than an hour a month and do not mind a watermark.
Choose Hobbyist if you upload or record up to 10 hours a month and 1080p is enough.
Choose Creator if you need 4K, up to 30 media hours a month, unlimited stock media or the option to buy extra hours.
Choose Business if you need dubbing, custom avatars or templates in your brand's look, for a team of up to 5.
Where Cutroom fits
Descript is built for long recordings, podcasts and teams. Cutroom is built for short vertical ads made from one clip.
- You upload one clip of yourself talking, up to 3 minutes long.
- Cutroom adds captions timed to your voice and plays short stock clips (b-roll) over the words you pick. On Punch and Native it also shortens the pauses.
- A 30-second ad uses 110 credits. On Basic that is about $1.82 an ad, 22 of them a month.
- Each Cutroom plan is one sign-in for one person, and you cannot add teammates. Lite is $19.99 a month for 1,250 credits, Basic $39.99 for 2,500 and Premium $79.99 for 5,000.
- Basic adds music, at 50 credits for a track up to 60 seconds.
- Your first video is free, with no card, and you have 7 days to make it. It carries a Cutroom mark; Lite removes it.
