Flixier makes the export fast. Cutroom removes the timeline hour before it.

Flixier moved rendering into the cloud, and the export really is fast. The hour on the timeline before that export is still yours. Cutroom is the alternative that deletes the hour instead: one spoken take goes in, a finished 9:16 ad comes back, and your whole edit is marking words. Here is the honest split, with their published numbers.

A render farm in the browser is a real invention, and Flixier built one

Flixier is a timeline editor that runs entirely in the browser, with the heavy work done on their servers. Their homepage says exports that take hours elsewhere finish in minutes, and that a low-spec laptop can do professional work (August 2026).

Both claims describe something real. Rendering is the part of editing a machine should own, and a browser editor that never asks about your graphics card removes a genuine barrier.

The range is wide too. Multiple sources on one timeline, any aspect ratio out, subtitles marketed at 130-plus languages, real-time collaboration with comments on the timeline (their homepage, August 2026).

The published pricing: Starter at $19 a month for each seat with 60 export minutes a month at 1080p, Creator at $39 with unlimited exports, 4K and edit-by-transcript, Business at $69 (per their pricing page, August 2026). The same page shows their no-cost tier stamping a watermark and capping exports at ten minutes a month at 720p.

For a team cutting many formats from many sources on shared projects, that is a strong toolset at a fair price. This page is not for that team.

For an ad, the render was eight minutes of the evening. The timeline was the rest

Time an ad edit honestly and the export is the short line at the bottom. The long lines are above it.

Finding footage and dragging it to the right second. Timing captions to speech. Re-timing everything downstream when you delete one sentence. Nudging a clip back onto the word it slipped off.

A cloud render does not touch any of those lines. It makes the last step fast and leaves every step before it exactly as long as it was.

That is the speed argument in full. Flixier compresses the wait at the end of the edit. Cutroom removes the edit, because the machine drafts the whole cut before you touch anything.

The first version arrives finished: cut, covered with footage, captioned from your own audio, headlined. What is left for you is deciding, and deciding takes minutes.

Marking words is the whole edit, and that is why version five gets made

Upload one talking-head take of up to three minutes. Cutroom transcribes it with word-level timing, drafts the cut, places footage, and returns a 9:16 MP4 with captions burned in.

Then you direct on the transcript. Highlight a phrase and a clip lands over exactly those words. Swap it, or search millions of free ones.

Delete a line that wandered and the cut rebuilds. Change the pace and the whole read is re-cut, with coverage capped at 40, 45 or 52 percent depending on the setting.

Emphasise the word your claim turns on. Write the opening headline, or take the one it drafted. Pick how each clip enters: cut, whip, punch, glitch or sweep.

A batch is 100 credits and covers transcription, the directing pass and the footage search. Export is 20 credits a finished minute, so a thirty-second ad is about 110 credits all in.

Nothing here needs a timeline because nothing points at a second on a clock. Every instruction points at a word you said, and an instruction on a word cannot drift when the edit above it changes.

One 9:16 master, one speaker, and no timeline to fall back on

The scope is deliberately narrow, and buying without knowing it wastes a month.

The export is a 9:16 MP4 and nothing else. No landscape master for YouTube, no square, no 4K. Flixier exports all of those.

One take, one speaker, three minutes at most. Two sources cannot be cut together here. A multi-camera edit or an interview belongs on a timeline.

The captions are burned into the picture. There is no subtitle file to hand a client, and no translation. Flixier markets subtitles in 130-plus languages (their homepage, August 2026); one take here gives you one language, rendered into the frame.

There is no shared project, no comments, no seats. One person marks a transcript and downloads a file.

If any line above is the job in front of you, stay on the timeline. The narrowness is not modesty. It is why the finished ad comes back in minutes.

The verdict, row by row, with the rows they win on top

Published benchmarks put the share of ad creatives that become winners at roughly 5 to 8 percent, per Motion's analysis of 550,000+ Meta ads.

At that rate the account that ships more attempts finds more winners, whatever tool it uses. The question is what attempt nine costs you.

On a timeline, attempt nine costs most of what attempt one did, minus the ingesting. Here it costs a fresh batch at 100 credits plus 20 a minute to export, or 20 a minute alone if it is a re-cut of a take already batched.

Lite is $19.99 a month for 1,250 credits, nothing on the picture, cancel in one click. That is about ten finished one-minute ads a month, or eleven at thirty seconds.

Flixier's Starter is a close price at $19 a seat (per their pricing page, August 2026). The difference was never the subscription. It is the evenings between the subscriptions.

Flixier and Cutroom, row by row

The top three rows are real Flixier wins, and a team that needs them should stay. The rest is the hour the cloud never touched.

Questions people ask

Is Cutroom faster than Flixier?
At rendering, no claim either way: their cloud export is genuinely quick, and their homepage says exports finish in minutes (August 2026). At the whole job, yes, because there is no timeline stage at all. The first cut arrives made and your edit is marking words on a transcript.
Can Cutroom make a landscape video for YouTube?
No. The export is a 9:16 vertical MP4 and there is no other master. A widescreen edit belongs in a timeline editor, and Flixier is a reasonable one to do it in.
Can my editor and I work on the same project?
No. There are no shared projects, comments or approvals here. One person marks the transcript and exports the file. Flixier sells real-time collaboration if that is what your team runs on.
What does one finished ad cost?
A batch is 100 credits and covers transcription, the directing pass and the footage search. Export is 20 credits a finished minute. A thirty-second ad is about 110 credits, and Lite is $19.99 a month for 1,250 credits, cancel in one click.
Who should stay with Flixier?
Anyone cutting several sources together, anyone who needs landscape or 4K masters, and any team that reviews edits inside the tool. Those are timeline jobs. Bring the vertical talking-head ads here and leave the rest where it works.

The render was never your evening. The timeline was. Upload one take and find out what the edit costs when there is no timeline in it.
